Opening Day 2020

Orientation

This year, all of our Opening Day activities on August 20th will be online. We are still planning the details on how to best deliver information to families and students, and are committed to providing a rich experience to our new students, as well as help prepare all families for the start of the school year in Remote Learning.

  • 2:00pm: Freshman Student Orientation - This program will be to help build community and learn about AHS for our new incoming 9th graders. We plan to make this program as student-centered as possible, and engage our student leadership groups as much as possible.

    • Never been on the AHS campus?? No problem! Thanks to senior Colin O’Brien and Leadership students for creating a campus tour video.

  • 6:00pm: Continuing Families Reorientation - View the Recorded Video or Slide Deck This orientation is meant for our 10th through 12th grade student families, with an emphasis on the differences between remote learning from last Spring. This program will be shorter than the one for freshman families, and will cover the changes in policies and procedures being made to make remote learning as effective as possible.

In addition, our Counseling department will have an orientation for all families that are new to AUSD.

Annual Data Confirmation

In order to view teacher assignments/class schedules, families must log into Aeries and complete the annual data confirmation process. The following are instructions for how to complete the process:

  • Log into the Aeries Parent Portal using the following link: https://albanyusd.asp.aeries.net/student/LoginParent.aspx

  • Parents/Guardians who have not logged in previously already have an account, and have received login information through an automated email message.

  • Parents/Guardians who have not completed the annual data confirmation process will automatically be directed to the data confirmation page. Follow the instructions on each page to complete the process.

*Please note that the end of the Data Confirmation process says that you must print and return the Acknowledgement Form. This step is not necessary and we will not collect Acknowledgement Forms until we return to in-person schooling.

Class Schedules

All class schedules will be made available by 2:00pm on August 20th directly through Aeries. While the majority of our students currently have tentative schedules, we are working to get every student the classes that they desire. It is important that all parents complete the data verification in Aeries as soon as possible.

We are also working to have more robust technical support for those who are having difficulty accessing Aeries especially for the first time. We will be sending out more details about technical support before August 20th to ensure everyone has a smooth start to the school year.

Weekly Learning Schedule

Based on some discussions on making a Teaching and Learning Schedule as sustainable as possible for everyone, we have modified our default weekly schedule to have a later start time, a more consistent lunch break, and better distribute the block periods in the day. You can find a copy of the schedule here: Albany/MacGregor Weekly Schedule

Our first week of school will also have a modified schedule so that we can provide technology training to all students, found here: First Week of School Schedule

Chromebooks & Mobile Hotspots

As you prepare for remote learning, please complete the following form if you are interested in requesting a Chromebook from the school:

Chromebook Request: AHS Fall 2020

*Note that you will be contacted after you complete the form for a scheduled pickup at the library.

We will also have a limited number of wifi hot spots available to students that need them. We will be providing more information about how to request one at our orientation on Thursday.

Food Services

Grab and go meal service will continue during remote learning. Due to a federal rule, we can no longer provide free meals to all children under 18. Meals are available for purchase, or free/reduced price if your child(ren) qualifies. If you are not sure if your child(ren) qualifies for free or reduced price meals, please visit Albany School Food Project’s Meal Applications page for more information and to submit an application. All families will receive a letter with a scannable barcode for each student in the household. You will need to bring the barcode each time you pick up food regardless of your child(ren)’s eligibility (Free, Reduced price, or Paid). The pick-up location is at Albany High School's multi-purpose room, 603 Key Route Blvd. on Monday and Wednesday only, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Social distancing measures are in effect. Face coverings are required. Children do not need to be present to pick up food. For more information, contact Chef Sabina 510-558-2608
