Albany High School is the only comprehensive high school in the Albany Unified School District. It has approximately 1150 students in grades 9 through 12. The school offers seven periods per day, two semesters per academic year. Each semester is a minimum of 18 weeks. Community
Albany is an urban residential town of approximately one square mile, located in the San Francisco/East Bay Area. For a small community, Albany has a diverse population, due in part to the fact that UC Berkeley’s family housing complex is located within Albany USD. Nearly a third of Albany residents were both outside the U.S., 40% speak a language other than English at home, and 73% have completed a bachelor’s or graduate degree. Many families are attracted to Albany because of its strong support for education.
Students
The school has a diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural population, composed of about 16% Hispanic/Latinx, 32% White, 27% Asian, 4% African-American, and 16% multi-ethnic. We have 6% English Learners and 34% fluent-English proficient students. At least 23% of students qualify for the Free/Reduced Price Lunch Program. The graduation rate for recent cohorts is around 95%.
Faculty & Staff
The teaching faculty includes 66 classroom teachers (49 full-time and 17 part-time), at least two-thirds of whom hold graduate degrees. The pupil-teacher ratio is 20 to 1. There are 3 administrators and 5 guidance counselors, 2 of whom work part time.
Covid-19
Like the rest of the nation and world, Albany High School has been deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Our district moved to remote learning on March 17, 2020, and our 2020-21 school year was conducted on a remote learning schedule with a mandatory minimum of instructional minutes delivered synchronously and asynchronously on a modified block schedule. The district approved a Pass/No Pass grading system for the Spring 2020 semester for all students, and in accordance with California law, students could elect P/NP grades for the 2020-21 school year.

Single Plan For Student Achievement (SPSA)
The Single Plan for Student Achievement is a plan of actions to raise the academic performance of all students. California Education Code sections 41507, 41572, and 64001 and the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) require each school to consolidate all school plans for programs funded through the ConApp and ESEA Program Improvement into the SPSA.
