Watch the AHS Winter Dance Showcase (virtually)

The Albany High School Dance Department debuted its fall semester pieces last Friday with their Virtual Winter Showcase. The two-act gallery includes highlights of dances learned in all three dance classes this semester, several student-choreographed screen dances, and performances from Albany Dance Company. The collection concludes with a special collaboration between the AHS Jazz Band, Vocal Soul and Albany Dance Company.

Senior Hannah Jaffe said, "It was a completely new challenge to create a performance specifically for the screen! I really enjoyed being able to combine video filming and editing with choreography."

Senior Elinor Rees-Hill said, "I really enjoyed creating dances specifically for video; it was a great way to take advantage of our new virtual format for performances and explore how we can use it to enhance our dancing. I had a lot of fun experimenting with camera angles and ways to interact with the audience through the camera. It was strange yet exciting to see my classmates that I've never met in person dance. I was amazed at their talents and unique styles!"

Mrs. Baker said, "I am extremely proud of how fully our dancers have embraced creating dance for the screen, and I appreciate the time and energy they put into seeing their projects through from concept to completion. In addition to choreographic and performance principles, they have also expanded their knowledge of cinematic elements and video editing, which is not something we would have the opportunity to spend so much time on in a typical year."

The AHS Dance Virtual Winter Showcase can be found here. Make sure to use the right arrows to scroll through the thumbnails for each act.
