News from the AHS Library

The Albany High Library is a great resource for students at school and at home. Our new librarian, Ms. Scheuer, is creating a welcoming, supportive space for all students. We are open every day before school, at lunch and afterschool. Students use the library to study, use a computer, check out a book, or just chill. New this year: students may eat in the library, as long as they’re respectful and responsible.

Are you looking for a new book to read? Check out the AHS Librarian’s Goodreads page: goodreads.com/ahs-librarian to see books we recommend. Browse our digital shelves, and explore books by genre. For example, you can see some of the romance books that AHS readers are loving:

We are so lucky in Albany to have the support of SchoolCare. Ms. Jenna, our fabulous library assistant, is funded by SchoolCare and helps keep our library open extended hours. Thank you, Albany!

Bike Parking on Campus During Construction

AHS has moved most of our bike parking in front of the Little Theater during construction. If these racks are full, there are more racks by the pool, near the intersection of Pomona and Portland Avenues. Because this new location is also our main entrance and a high-traffic walking area, please be considerate of those around you.

Cycling and Bike Parking Guidelines

  • Enter the AHS campus from Portland Avenue and the Food Service Alley.
  • Walk your bike on the sidewalk and in our entrance plaza.
  • Lock you bike with a U-lock (this new location is less protected).
  • Bikes must be at 90 degrees to the wave racks (parallel to the nearby red racks).
  • Do not block sidewalks by locking to poles, trees, or other objects.
  • Helmets are required for anyone under 18, by law. AUSD encourages everyone to wear a helmet.

Update From Admin Regarding Aeries Parent Portal and Opening Day

Hello Albany High Families!  This is an update from our earlier email. Next Thursday August 23, 2018 will be Opening Day .  In order for students to receive their schedules, parents must complete the Student Data Confirmation Process on the Aeries Parent Portal https://albanyusd.asp.aeries.net/student/LoginParent.aspx..   In the “Documents” section of the data confirmation process, parents and caregivers should print and sign the Acknowledgement form.  Albany High School students no longer need a Student Emergency Card.  Students only need to bring the Acknowledgement Form to Opening Day on August 23rd in order to receive their schedules.  Students will not receive their schedules without the acknowledgement. Students that are not able to attend orientation due to extenuating circumstances may pick up their schedules on the first day of school or have a parent/guardian attend orientation to pick up their schedules.  Thank you for your help in ensuring a smooth opening day!

Opening Day Schedule, Thursday, August 23rd, AHS Gym

Aeries Student Data Verification Common Questions:

Where is the Acknowledgement Form?
The Acknowledgement Form is located in the “Documents” section, which is the 5th screen in the process.  On this screen, several documents need to be downloaded, and you need to click in the small box on the right to confirm that you have downloaded and read them.  The Acknowledgement Form is the 9th document in the list, just below “Acceptable Use Policy Traditional Chinese.PDF.”

Help Fund SchoolCARE—Help Fund Electives

Dear AHS Families,

Since 2001, SchoolCARE has provided AHS and other AUSD schools with essential and varied support, all with funds donated by Albany families.

Please consider giving generously to SchoolCARE. All the proceeds directly benefit our Albany students! Having additional electives at AHS has been invaluable to providing much needed services to our students. We are so appreciative to SchoolCARE for supporting our students in this way.

SchoolCARE needs to raise an additional $75,000 district-wide by early summer to fund the staff that are most important to the community - like elective courses at AHS. Donations are important now for planning the coming school year.

For more information or to make donations, you can go to www.albanyschoolcare.org

Thank you for your ongoing support,
Alexia Ritchie, AHS Principal
