Apparel is back, and this year we will be highlighting a new design showcasing all of the schools in our district. Choose from two designs in a variety of styles. The store will be open from October 25 through November 22 and orders will be delivered to your school by your apparel representative. Sales will go towards supporting your school’s PTA, and there will only be two additional opportunities to purchase your school gear later this year. Bathroom Doors—I Want to Hear Your Opinion
Dear AHS students and families,
As many of you know, we're not alone with high schools across the nation finding an increase in vaping and vandalism in our public restrooms. One option to help deter this behavior and increase campus supervision is to remove the doors and install floor-to-ceiling partitions in their place. My goal is to preserve privacy in every restroom and increase our ability to monitor those areas safely. I am looking forward to hearing your opinion of this strategy and any unintended consequences I should consider. Feel free to email or meet with me in person to discuss further.

Join us at the 11th Annual Arts + Crafts Fair at Albany Middle School. The fair features the work of over 100 local artists. Shop for holiday gifts, enjoy baked goods, and listen to live music while supporting Albany Middle School.

Albany High Vocal Music and Albany Music Fund is kicking off our 2nd Annual Dessert Theater event! Join Ross and Rachel on their search for the meaning of life, friendship, and love throughout the ages, from Ancient Greece through the meme-filled 2010s! Throughout the event, all five Albany High School choirs will entertain you with a cappella decade classics and seasonal Renaissance madrigals. You'll also be filled to your heart's content with all-you-can-eat desserts: cookies, cupcakes, brownies, pies, and other assorted faire, with a good helping of fresh fruit, gluten-free, and vegan-friendly options!
Message From Principal Ritchie Regarding Saugus High School
Dear Albany High School Community,
Our thoughts and hearts are with the students, staff and community at Saugus High School in Southern California as they recover from the horrible loss of life and sense of safety on their campus. Please review the safety guidelines below for actions we can take during an active shooter on campus.

Active Shooter:
If you suspect an active shooter or hear "Active shooter on campus-this is not a drill" over the intercom initiate Run, Hide, Fight procedure.
Run:
If you think you can escape the building, leave belongings and run using traditional exits like doors as well as non-traditional exits like windows.
Encourage others to follow you but do not wait for them.
Keep hands visible to any law enforcement officers.
Scatter into the neighborhood.
Call 911 when in a safe location.
Hide:
If you don’t think you can escape, hide in the nearest room (including bathrooms or closets)
Lock all doors, and barricade with any available materials
Close blinds and cover windows
Turn off lights
Hide out of sight of doors and windows.
Silence all electronic devices.
Stay silent in place be ready to Run or Fight if needed, wait for a situation change or an in person ALL CLEAR message.
Fight:
If confronted by the shooter and you cannot Run, Fight.
Use any available items as a weapon for hitting or throwing to incapacitate the shooter.
Act first and aggressively, Commit to your actions.
If at any point you think you can escape, Run.
M Classroom Temporary Reroute
Please be advised that for the next three weeks, there will be temporary fencing in place along the current walkway leading to the M buildings from the front of the school. Access to the M buildings will be available through the alley way between the Art building and the pool as the crew puts down the pavers for our new courtyard area. We do apologize for the inconvenience this will cause.

Reel Stories is a filmmaking program for young women and non-binary youth. The first of the following two events is for ALL students. The second is specifically for young women and non-binary folkks.
On November 9 from 5PM to 8PM, Reel Stories is screening Amy Adrion's award winning documentary Half the Picture at Luka's Taproom & Bar in Oakland! The documentary interviews female directors in Hollywood and highlights the gender discrimination they face in the industry. Following the film, one of our student board members will facilitate a special Q&A with featured director Jennifer Phang!
We have 25 comp'd tickets for youth available and want to invite any interested students to use code YOUTH when selecting the youth admission ticket at checkout to redeem their free tickets.

On November 16, Reel Stories is offering a FREE YouTube workshop from 12PM - 6PM at our home, the Department of Make Believe in Oakland! Young women & non-binary youth ages 12-24 will spend the day learning the tips and tricks for building their own YouTube channel & creating high quality content- all taught by experienced filmmaker Ya'Shalan (YaYa) Nelson! Winter Sports Registration
Registration for winter sports—basketball, soccer and wrestling—closes on Thursday, October 31st. Parents can access registration at www.familyid.com. A physical exam is required.
Join Familias Latinas de Albany at Music in the Park
Come dance with us! Familias Latinas de Albany will be at Music in the Park on September 25th for the final performance of the year, featuring La Misa Negra’s Heavyweight Cumbia and high-energy, Afro-Latin music. We’ll have information about our plans for the 2019-2020 school year, as we look forward to sharing our heritage and culture with our neighbors in Albany.
