Senate Bill 98—Notifications Will Be Sent If ICE Confirmed On Campus

Posted Date: 02/09/26 (11:15 AM)

Dear AUSD Community,

We are writing to inform you regarding California Senate Bill 98 (SB 98, passed in September 2025), which states that schools need to notify their communities when the presence of immigration enforcement has been confirmed on their campuses. This bill builds on the continuing practice of California Assembly Bill 21 (AB21, passed in 2017) which requires institutions to foster a safe and inclusive environment for community members regardless of immigration status.

Albany Unified School District is committed to supporting all students regardless of immigration status and is aware that all campus community members can be directly or indirectly impacted by immigration enforcement actions. At this time, there is no known activity on campus, and we have no indication that any such activities will occur.

The School’s Role

Decisions about notifications under SB 98 are administrative decisions made by campus leadership. It’s important to note that federal immigration enforcement is outside of school or District control. We cannot prevent federal officers from accessing public areas of campus or impede their activities. We can provide you with information about your rights, connect you to legal resources, and ensure you know how to access support. The AUSD Protocol for ICE Actions & Inquiries is detailed here.

Notification Process

If federal immigration enforcement is confirmed on campus, we will issue an email notification providing information about the enforcement action. Our goal is to verify any reported immigration enforcement activity quickly, but official confirmation must be complete and may not always be achievable. If you observe what appears to be immigration enforcement in progress, follow the guidance below.

If You See Immigration Enforcement On A Campus

Please contact the school office immediately through the numbers listed below. Prioritize your safety and do not physically interfere with federal agent activity. AUSD will issue an alert once enforcement is confirmed.
