AHS Instrumental Music Success!

Three freshman students from Albany High have beenselected for the All-State band and orchestra: Alfred Yoon -viola, Leon Chou-violin, and Katie Dunkle-french horn. What a great achievement!

Last weekend, several of our groups attended the Folsom Jazz festival. The Jazz Lab took 4th place int he B Division, and the Jazz Band took 2nd place in the AA division of the Folsom Jazz festival (second to Marin School of the Arts). They played very well, and were announced to play in a final round with the top 5 scoring bands of the day (about 80 bands there). It was the first time in the Craig Bryant era that we have had a group selected to play in the final round there. They played great.

And we just found out that the Jazz Band has been selected for the Monterey Jazz Festival's Next Generation contest. They take 12 bands from across the country (blind audition by the Berklee School faculty). It is quite a high honor.

Congratulations to the instrumental music department and its director, Mr. Craig Bryant!
