Block A Schedule

General
  1. It’s petition time! If you want to request a schedule change for spring semester you must fill out a petition. Petitions are available in the main office starting Wednesday, 1/13, at 2:45pm. Petitions must be returned to the main office by Friday, 1/15, at 3:00pm NO EXCEPTIONS. Please note that if you are a sophomore dropping 2nd semester PE, you must attach an exemption form (available in the counseling office) if you have not already turned one in.
  2. Interested in computer science or curious to learn how games and apps are made? CodeNow is looking for high schools students to participate in their upcoming software engineering workshops. You must apply by Wednesday, January 13 at 11:59pm. For more information, visitwww.codenow.org/apply.
  3. Rosters for co-ed, 6 on 6 lunchtime indoor soccer are due to today to Ms. Vasarhely.
  4. Feeling nervous about Finals! Don’t forget, Flex tutoring is offered Monday through Thursday in the Flex Office. Please arrive in the first 5 minutes of lunch to be matched with a tutor. Flex Tutoring is first-come, first-served.
  5. Congrats to our Lincoln-Douglas Debate team for their awesome performance this past weekend. Special shout out to sophomore Evan Mallah for his winning record in the varsity division. You go Mallah!

  7. The men's soccer team hosts Salesian at Cougar Field on Tuesday. JV kick-off is at 4:00 and Varsity at 6:00. Come on down to support the teams!!
  8. Hey Cougar fans come out this Tuesday night at 7pm to cheer on your Cougar basketball team! We are up for the fight to win against De Anza but we need you there showing your Cougar pride! Students are free so come out and support tonight at 7pm Albany gym. 
  9. Albany High Boys Basketball plays Newark at the 2016 MLK Classic at UC Berkeley Haas Pavilion on MLK Jr. Day, Monday, January 18th at 10:00am! Buy a $5 ticket and you get a FREE "Albany Hoops 6th Man" T-shirt to wear to the game! Tickets will be available in the AHS Athletic Office starting Monday, January 11th. No school that day, so come out and CHEER!
  10. Attention students: in two weeks, plastic disposable water bottles will no longer be sold at AHS. Currently, single-use bottles are not being sold in the gym lobby vending machine. This week, they will not be sold in the cafeteria. In two weeks they will no longer be sold anywhere at AHS. Please bring your own reusable water bottle to school! If you don’t own one, stop by the Venture Store and purchase one for only $10.
College and Career
  1. Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis is offering two Summer Pre-College Programs in July that provide you the opportunity for adding quality material to your portfolio, which will strengthen them for college admission. Applications are now being accepted. The deadline for submission is April 15th.
  2. Need money for college? Then check out the YMCA's Dollars for Scholars event on Saturday, January 23rd, from 10am-2pm! You must register at dollars.Yscholars.org by today to reserve your spot.
  3. Attention college-bound Seniors! On Wednesday, January 27th at 6:30pm, we will be hosting a financial aid workshop. To register, go to EventBrite.com and search for the Cash for College event "CCFC2016" at Albany High School. Space is limited, so sign-up today!
