General
  1. Have you ever wanted to write a book? November is National Novel Writing Month, or Na No Wri Mo. Join other Albany High students in trying to write 50,000 words during the month of November. Come to an informational meeting this Friday in the library during Advisory. Be sure to get an Advisory pass ahead of time from Ms Oremland. 
  2. The PSAT is this Saturday! Please bring two #2 pencils and an approved calculator, and plan to arrive by 8:00 am sharp. Room assignments will be posted in the main entrance lobby. If you haven't signed up yet, tests are still available at the bookroom window at lunch. See you Saturday!
  3. Tonight is the AHS music department’s fall preview concert.  Come and hear wind ensemble, jazz band, women’s chamber ensemble and chamber singers at 7:00pm in the Little Theater.  Admission is free!   See you there!
  4. Come support the tennis team at Memorial Courts after school today as they take on St. Mary’s.
Important Homecoming Announcements:
  1. Homecoming points are offered to the class that uses the most environmentally friendly decorations.  For example, recyclable, compostable and “keep for next year” materials, e.g. paper, plants and keeping tissue rolls for next year.  Please deposit the materials into leadership regulated bins and boxes for fair measurements.
  2. Show your class spirit and win spirit points by dressing up and attending powder puff games, boys volleyball and more!  Dress up days are as follows:  Monday – twin day   Tuesday – generation day   Wednesday – class color day   Thursday – tropical day   Friday – red/white day.  Powder puff prelims are today at lunch in the gym between sophomores and seniors.  Come support your class!
  3. Donate your cans for homecoming points!  The Alameda County Food Bank will be holding the food drive from October 13 – October 24.
  4. Please turn in homecoming court nomination sheets to the ASB leadership box in the main office.  Deadline is this Friday at 2:40pm  Extra nomination sheets are in Ms. Hudson’s Rm 203.
  5. Join the AHS choirs for the annual Homecoming Movie Night on Thursday, October 23rd.  There will be a sing-along showing of Mulan at 7:00pm in the Little Theater.  Admission is pay-what-you-want and all donations will benefit music at AHS!  Homecoming points will also be awarded for attendance.  See you there!
College and Career
  1. Alameda County District Attorney's Office is offering an exciting program for students interested in learning about the justice system.  The program runs from January to July 2015 and includes a summer internship.  For program requirements and an application, see Ms. Fan in the Counseling Office.
