General
  1. Aretha Franklin was not only the first African American woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she was also the first woman period!
  2. The African-American Parent Engagement Group cordially invites you to attend their Second Annual Black History Month Celebration on Wednesday, February 15, from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Ocean View Multi-Purpose Room. All families are invited for a night of singing, dancing and a soul food dinner. Many student groups, K-12, will be performing. Hope to see you there!
  3. Attention AHS Students! The Varsity Girls & Boys Basketball teams will be playing their first round TCAL Playoff games at home TONIGHT! Girls will play at 5:30, Boys at 7:00pm. Since it is the playoffs we are required to charge an admission fee of $2.00 for students, but all AHS students will be admitted FREE if you wear your “Albany Hoops” 6th Man t-shirt! If you don’t wear your Albany Hoops t-shirt then you will have to pay the $2.00 admission fee. Hope to see you there! 
  4. Congrats to everyone who competed in the Stanford Invitational Speech & Debate Tournament this past weekend. Special shout outs to Sam S and Yufan Z for breaking into JV Public Forum octafinals and to Jorjie K and Ruby T for breaking into JV Public Forum quarter finals. Also, a huge congratulations to Jorjie K who placed 3rd in speaker points out of 380 other JV Public Forum competitors. 
  5. Are you interested in taking Honors Painting/Drawing and/or A.P. Studio Art next year? Do you have questions about these classes? Come to an information session on Thursday at lunch in room 126. 
  6. Course selections are due Monday, February 27th.

  8. SENIORS: This Thursday at lunch is the very last chance to submit your senior signature! If at least 100 more seniors do not submit their signatures, we will not be including senior signatures in the yearbook.
  9. Juniors: Have you signed up for Job Shadow Day, yet? Sign-ups end Friday, so sign-up online today.
  10. Global Navigator Scholarships deadline extended to this Friday, Feb 17, so apply for part of $15,000!
College and Career
  1. In next week's visit line-up we have Cogswell College and Rustic Pathways travel program. Space is limited, so sign-up in the Counseling Department today.
  2. Do you love health science? Then you should know that the application for FACES Summer Medical Academy 2017 is now open! The program will be held July 10th-21st. The deadline for the application is due April 14th. For more information visit FacesForTheFuture.org.
  3. Do you like science? Do you love animals? Do you want to be a veterinarian? If you answered “yes” to ANY of those questions, join UC Davis's VSO for a day full of case studies and wetlabs!
